Alert reader Shihui spotted a notice by Bjorn Shen of Artichoke on Facebook. It was about a new restaurant called Morsels on Mayo Street.

Being a fan of Artichoke and excited about new places to eat, Shihui quickly sprang into action, after a rapid social media poll, and organized a dinner there.

Got a message out of the blue; I seized the moment to ask about dinner and we ended up at Equina, a newly-opened tapas bar by hotelier Loh Lik Peng and Jason Atherton on Jiak Chuan Road.

Side-track: It being Christmas, I thought it appropriate to get a Christmas gift. However, gift or otherwise, it’s been a while I’ve bought a feminine product, so I turned to my go-to advisors on such matters: The Faerie Imp and M Or The Food Blogger Formerly Known as The Skinny Epicurean. Both gave good advice that was reasonable and actionable. Thanks, ladies.

DB Bistro Moderne at Marina Bay Sands


Friday night, we were tired from work and she wanted to try DB Bistro Moderne. I was keen because I heard many bloggers write good things about it.

I like bistros for the basic reason that it’s simple, uncomplicated food that you can sit down, forego the pretensions and just enjoy a good meal with great company. And having walked past DB Bistro Moderne and studying its menu for the umpteen time, we thought why the hell not.

Simple home-cooking, so don’t complain ok?

  • Salt-cured Hamachi
  • Grilled Portobello mushroom & pine nuts, drizzled with Maple syrup perfumed with Truffle oil
  • Mentaiko Tagliatelle
  • Roast Lamb with grilled onions in port and a Sweet Pea Ricotta salad
  • Baked Peach toast with Vanilla-Maple syrup, possibly served with ice cream
