When news floated about a month ago that Umami is coming back to Singapore for a visit, urgent communiques were sent to form alliances to jockey for position to have lunch, dinner or even tea with her.
An opportunity like this is like a hurried lover, it comes and goes.
When Weylin organized a lunch at the Crystal Palace Golden Palace at The Paragon, I replied immediately as this would be my first Dim Sum meal for the year 2008.
It’s sad I know, but it is very difficult to find people who can find the time to have a leisurely lunch without raising the suspicion of some ulterior motive. Dim Sum in particular is a communal activity where interaction – as is the case of all meals – is a major part of the meal.
Somehow I find eating Dim Sum alone is just so sad. There is nothing more lonely than eating solo in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of a Dim Sum restaurant.

Anyway, traffic was horrible that day as I was 5 minutes late only to find that I was the second to arrive. Umami crossed the threshold with little V. So we spent a few minutes catching up.
When Weylin and Sam arrived, we started ordering. This was a joyous activity to be part of as there is nothing quite like a table of foodies ordering Dim Sum. I admire the stoicism of the service captain.
The table quickly overflowed with the small little dishes. Yea, a multitude thereof.

This was one of the better lunches I’ve had in a while. I had my Dim Sum fix where the checkboxes of all my favorite Dim Sum dishes were well and duly ticked. Most of all, I caught up with friends whom I’ve not met in a while. Well, we do see each other at the Makankaki sessions, but those encounters are so fleeting and not all that conducive to a real chat. Not with all that wine and food flying around.
Now, I have to wait next year for Umami to return for my next Dim Sum fix but as for now, I can only quote the immortal words of the Ohio Express (voted 2nd worst song of all time): “Yummy Yummy Yummy (I Got Love In My Tummy).”

I put on weight gratefully whenever Umami comes home, this is the only time TTCW allows me to do so.
@TTC: Yes! It’s a license to pig ou enjoy the company of our friends.
