A visit to the hospital

Honey, do my hips look big?

Bright was the day as I set off from home to the airport for a short trip to Malaysia. Simon and Jeff have been asking me to go up to KL without the large group so that we can get down to some serious, distraction-free eating.

In fact, when Simon asked what I wanted to do on my trip, my reply was to be like a Wagyu Cow: eating, drinking alcohol, lazing around and getting massages.

Simple hopes, modest hopes but it was not to be.

As the plane took off from Changi Airport, I felt an excruciating pain in my lower back and in that special place where a cow has its udders if you get my drift. Long story short, I landed, took the train to KL Sentral where Simon sent me to the A&E where I lay mooing groaning.

While it has been said that a kidney stone attack is one of the more painful afflictions you can get, I have a high pain threshold, so I laid quietly, gritting my teeth. However, it kinda gets lonely as you lay in the corner of the A&E ward listening to the erratic beeping of heartbeat monitors. So I decided to make some noise.

After all, was it not written: to be heard, you first must make a sound?

I got results. They gave me a painkiller administered via needlepoint to the tuchus.

I was half-awake (dude, the painkiller was some good shit) as they wheeled me around. It was surreal to be on drugs on a bed with the lights moving above you like in the movies. I found myself humming Steppenwolf’s Magic Carpet Ride.

After numerous X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds, they confirmed the kidney stones and recommended that I sought treatment in Singapore where I was covered by insurance.

I was then unleashed onto Kuala Lumpur pain-free, very mellow and above all, ravenous.

I will survive

I will survive

Stones removed in Singapore yet?

Did you administer anything else other than painkiller into your blood stream? hehe…

[…] for example my second day in KL where I got out of bed still feeling very mellow (since the painkiller hasn’t worn off yet), Simon decided to throw me into the deep end of ethnic Malay […]

@Fen Thanks! Soon!

@keropokman: Not yet, soon. The painkiller was very good indeed. I’ll be blogging about what else went with it. 🙂
